Canine Influenza
Has you dog been sneezing or has a runny nose? Canine influenza is one of most prominent health issues for dogs theses days. A virus that has infected horses for over 40 years is now infecting dogs. Dogs who have been exposed have a good chance of becoming infected.
The virus is spread from dog to dog by sneezing, direct contact, and contact with contaminated food and water dishes, bedding, clothing, etc. Canine influenza is easily killed by most disinfectants and does not survive well outside the host. Household bleach can be used for disinfecting contaminated utensils and the premises. Eighty percent of the dogs will show symptoms within 7 to 10 days after exposure. Symptoms of the upper respiratory system include coughing, sneezing, nasal discharge and fever, which will last for 10 to 21 days, despite treatment with cough suppressants and antibiotics. Keeping your kitten healthy
Along with having your kitten examined by your veterinarian, kitten proof your home as much as possible. Just like a human baby, kittens are curious and want to explore ever corner of the house, often by chewing on, climbing up, or crawling under anything that seems interesting. Remove plants that are known to be poisonous, such as Boston and English Ivy, bird of paradise, caladium, poinsettia, lillies, philodendron, and rhododendron to name a few.
Kittens are energetic. If they are not climbing your drapes or digging up your twenty-year old jade plant, they are sleeping peacefully on your favorite black cashmere sweater. With time their antics wane and they become more interested in being a member of the family. Above all else, they rely on us to take care of them from the beginning and in return will give us years of love. Read more

What to Look for in a Boarding Facility
Being on vacation is fun; shouldn't it also be for your pet? Rather than dealing with the difficulty of taking your pet with you or leaving them at home, let your pet go on their own vacation by taking them to a boarding facility. Before you take your beloved pet to just any boarding facility it is important to look into it first, much like how we check destinations, accommodations, and available activities for our vacations. Canine in the limelight--Tenaker staffer trains Zion
by Steve Lipsher

Zion, the yellow Labrador retriever credited with plucking a boy from the Roaring Fork River 10 days ago, practically needs his own press agent these days - but hardly anything else.

Since his heroic swim out to 8-year-old Ryan Rambo, who grabbed the roughly 80-pound dog's collar and was dragged to shore after getting flipped from a raft, Zion and 13-year- old owner Chelsea Bennett have become local heroes in Glenwood Springs and national celebrities. Read more

Policy change for dog boarding, day care, and grooming
Due to the recent outbreak of canine influenza the following policy change has been made and will be implemented immediately. All dogs must have all of their required vaccinations 7-10 days prior to their boarding, day care, or grooming appointments. Please understand that this is to benefit your dog's health.

Recipe:
Liver-Lovin' Dog Cookies

Ingredients
6-8 ounces raw liver
¾ lb. white flour
4 ounces Quacker Oats
2 boullion cubes, low-salt meat or chicken flavored
1 cup water (approximately)
1 egg, beaten
Directions
Finely chop liver. Mix flour and oats, crumble in boullion cubes, add egg and chopped liver. Add enough water to make a firm, slightly sticky dough. Spread evenly on cookie sheets, about 1/2" thick. Cut with cookie cutter dipped in flour. Bake for 1 hour on greased cookie sheet. Store in an air-tight container in refrigerator; can be kept for up to two weeks.

These cookies were baked by a professional chef . . . your cookies will vary, but be just as tasty.

Pet Profile
Of The Month
~ Cricket ~

Cricket has come to Tenaker everyday for doggie-daycare for several years. Tenaker caters to her special needs by taking her on walks and accommodating her distinct likes and dislikes. For example, she likes her water very cold and she likes to be in control of her walks. Her favorite food is freeze dried chicken breast with veggies. Most importantly, she thinks she monitors the flow of the kennels!
